Friends of Guernsey State Park
CCC Workers Statue Project
"Honoring those who built and sacrificed"
From 1933-1936 nearly 36,000 CCC enrollees built the
beloved landmarks of the Wyoming State Park System. The
conservation and recreational work accomplished at Guernsey State Park
is an example of the ingenuity and craftsmanship that has become a
benchmark for CCC depression era construction.

Message from the Friends of Guernsey State
Park
Dear Friend,
We are asking you to monetarily assist us in
honoring the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
accomplishments in Wyoming by erecting a monument that will proudly
stand at the entrance to the museum at Guernsey
State Park and Reservoir.
Friends of Guernsey State park was organized in in
1986 to promote family recreation and to further develop the trails,
facilities, historic features, and the museum within the state
park. The CCC built park improvements from 1933 to 1936.
CCC accomplishments included the museum, the castle, Brimmer Point
overlook, bridges, picnic areas, wooden signs, and nearly ten miles of
walking trails. Whether you are visiting the park for the first
time, or returning for visits that span decades, you can't help but
stand in awe of the craftsmanship of the stone buildings and
structures built by the CCC. Guernsey
State Park was designated a National Historic Landmark on
September 25, 1997.
The National Association of CCC Alumni, based in St.
Louis, MO, is promoting a CCC worker's state in every state.
Thus far, nearly 30 statues have been erected across the nation, and
Friends of Guernsey State Park would like to add Wyoming to that list
very soon. Every county in Wyoming was a beneficiary of the 136
CCC camps located throughout the state. A total of 36,000 men served
in Wyoming. They built fences, fought coal and forest fires,
planted trees, stocked fish, built ranger stations, built phone lines,
thinned timber, and built spot areas including fishing ponds and camp
grounds. Fourteen CCC men died in Wyoming while fighting
the Black
Water Canyon fire west of Cody. Wyoming is a better place to
live thanks to the dedication and hard work of the CCC workers and it
is time we recognized their sacrifices.
We feel the museum at Guernsey State park is the
best location for the Wyoming CCC statue. The six-foot bronze
statue will be placed on a foundation of stone quarried from Guernsey
Park. We have approval to erect the monument both from the
Bureau of Reclamation and from the Wyoming Parks and Cultural
Resources Department. Now we need your help. Your
financial donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this
request to financially support a CCC monument for Wyoming.
Sincerely,
Beverly
Holmes, Chair, CCC Monument Committee
