Although long time CCC supporter Marie Eier resigned
her position on the Board of Directors, she is still an active part of
the CCC heritage community. In her stead, we call upon others
who have news to share about the CCC in Idaho. Please send
your Idaho info to ccc@ccclegacy.org

Dear Editor,
Former
members of Chapter 28, NACCCA met March 13, 2007 at the Lewiston
Community Center following lunch at the meal site.
The meeting
was enjoyed by the widows present and Carl and Vera Paul from Karniah.
A 1989 scrap book was displayed.
It was
decided to continue informally and to arrange a show and tell to
remember March 31, as the day the program later known as the Civilian
Conservation Corps (CCC) was signed into law March 31, 1933. The
CCC's lasted until funds were no longer appropriate and the CCC's
ended June 1942.
Memorials
have been sent in memory of Chancie Myers to NACCCA at 16 Hancock
Avenue, Jefferson Barracks, St Louis, MO and Central Idaho Historical
Museum, 1001 State Street, McCall, Idaho.
The next
meeting will be April 10 at the Lewiston Community Center, 1424 Main
Street, following the meal with Senior Citizens at 12:00 noon. A
display table will be set up in meeting room with memorabilia, photo
albums, 1933-1936 CCC newspapers, pictures and a signed Proclamation
issued by Governor Otter recognizing March 31, 2007 as a day to honor
the accomplishments of the CCC in Idaho and our country.
The public
is invited former CCC men, or relatives of CCC men or anyone
interested in the history of the depression years. Cake and
beverages will be provided. The display will be open from 12:30
til 2:00 pm April 10 at the Community Center. The Washington
Proclamation will also be on display April 10 at the Community
Center. As well as pictures of the CCC Statue at McCall,
Idaho.
Tom Eier and
Marie Eier recently attended a resolution signing by Washington
Governor Christine Gregoire that recognized March 31 as CCC day in
Washington. CCC men, wives and friends witnessed the legislature
of both house and Senate approving the proclamation that then was
signed by Governor Gregoire in a signing ceremony.
Letter from
the NW Regional Director
December 13,
2006
Dear Chapter presidents: and
Robert Robeson, Peggy Borses, and Ed Hill
I
am pleased to report that I know Chapters 5, 41, 39 and 28 will be
meeting in December.
Ted Will in North Dakota has
ordered CCC "Worker" statue and plans are being made to have
it installed at Fort Lincoln State Park in the spring.
He has struggled with Cancer the past four years.
No plans for future reunions in North Dakota age catching up
with his members too.
Remove Chapter 172 from your
mailing list. Joe Musilek
not able to continue as President and Chapter has disbanded.
They sent their Memorabilia to Tacoma Museum. I am notifying
National although I think Vi has already done that.
Joe did a great job at having interesting meetings.
Doug and I enjoyed meeting with them
I have not heard from new
chapter in South Dakota. Or any word from Chapter 171?
I suspect Emil Sabol has left
for the South for the winter I wish him many good golf games.
While Chapter 4 no longer meets, his and their efforts in
recognizing CCC work in Oregon continues.
I have had an interesting mail
from Bob Robeson about Indian CCC camps and it is hoped that it will
be included in an issue of the Journal.
I wish each of you a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Sincerely
Marie Eier

August 10, 2006 The Star-News - CCC Statue
Dedicated Saturday at McCall Museum BY KENDEL MURRANT
The city of McCall and the Central Idaho
Historical Museum honored the legacy of the Civilian Conservation
Corps in McCall and Idaho Saturday by dedicating a memorial statue
called "The Worker." The statue is located at the Central
Idaho Historical Museum located directly across the street from where
the McCall CCC camp used to be located. "The Worker"
was unveiled by National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps
Alumni president Walter F. Atwood, McCall City Mayor Bill
Robertson, and Marie Eier, wife of Doug Eier, who was a driving force
behind putting the CCC statue in McCall until his death last
August. Many former "CCC boys," friends and family
came from all over the country for the memorial service.
The ceremony consisted of much reminiscing and recognition of what
the CCC accomplished as an organization during its existence from 1933
to 1942. Workers in the CCC planted over 3 billion trees
nationwide, fought forest fires, and established hundreds of national
and state parks. They also erected several of the buildings on
the Central Idaho Historical Museum's grounds that are used
today.
"McCall is such a wonderful setting for this, right here in
the heart of Idaho," said Larry Wolf, program manager for the
Bureau of Reclamation's Safety of Dams.
The McCall CCC statue is the first CCC statue in Idaho and the 37th
of a national project to place at least one CCC statue in every state.
The $31,000 cost of the project was shared by the CCC alumni, the
city's local-option tax and the McCall Improvement Committee. The base
of the statue was built by a team of volunteers led by Fred Drake and
John Kwader of McCall.
