Who are we
now? Civilian Conservation Corps Legacy
In
recent months, a merger has taken place between the Camp Roosevelt CCC
Legacy Foundation and the National Association of CCC Alumni (NACCCA)
establishing the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Legacy. The
purpose of the CCC Legacy is to continue the promotion of the CCC in
America and to maintain the programs of NACCCA.
Over
a period of three years, the Boards of Directors and interested
members of the two organizations discussed ways of partnering to help
secure the heritage of the CCC and enhance the programming of both
organizations. The final suggestion by the NACCCA Board was a
merger.
The
Boards of Directors and members finished the voting process in the
spring of 2007 and the technical aspects of the merger began. In
December 2007, an interim Board of Directors was elected to create the
infrastructure of the new organization and new bylaws were passed to
reflect an organization for the future.
During
the 2008 membership year, all policies of both organizations will be
reviewed and combined. Accounting systems and membership data
bases are combined. Over the next year, more changes will take
place that will reflected the combined organizations. Eventually
the St. Louis museum facility will be transferred to the new CCC
Interpretive Center in Edinburg, VA. There is much
work left to do to secure our combined organizations and the
associated NACCCA Chapter infrastructure.
The
alumni of the CCC have made a remarkable contribution to saving the
heritage of the CCC. Now, it is time for following generations to step forward to help
secure their hard work so that it won't be forgotten.
All
ideas for preserving the heritage of the CCC are welcome. Please
become a member and support the work of our nation's
alumni.
